Do you admire birds and would like to explore them through watercolour in a calm and creative atmosphere?

In this beginner-friendly course, we will learn the fundamentals of watercolour painting while discovering the many different ways a bird can be expressed on paper. From soft, atmospheric washes to more detailed, minimalist, or expressive interpretations, participants will explore a wide range of styles and techniques.

  • Light, Water and First Feathers – Observation, materials

  • Introduction to Watercolour – Water control, brush technique

  • Form & Proportion Made Simple – Simplified bird anatomy

  • Expressive & Atmospheric Birds – Glazing and soft edges

  • Colourful & Decorative Birds – Crisp edges and transparent colours

  • Minimalist Birds – Practising the wet-on-wet technique

  • Abstract Birds – Using a chosen technique

  • Final Bird Study – Composition and reflection

Prérequis

Débutant et Intermédiaire.

Matériel requis

Materials

  • A set of watercolour brushes in several sizes (e.g. boesner or Van Gogh – junior/student grade)


  • Graphite pencils (HB or 2B) and an eraser

  • A basic set of pan watercolours: at least the primary colours (+ green if possible)


  • Watercolour paper: good-quality, 300 g/m², in blocks or sheets (A4 or A3)

  • A water container and a white palette for mixing
