This course will introduce students to hand-building techniques used to construct ceramic forms stacked to create a sculptural totem-pole. Participants will design and build sculptural elements using techniques such as coil building, slab construction, and pinch forms.

Students will explore surface decoration using coloured slips, carving, texture, and glaze application.

By the end of the course, each student will produce a finished ceramic totem sculpture composed of stacked or assembled elements approximately 1 meter in height.

The course is appropriate for intermediate ceramic students.
